Winter warmer blanket appeal

Mittens

The Scottish SPCA is urging animal lovers to donate blankets to help keep hundreds of homeless animals warm this winter.

We cared for more than 900 unwanted and abandoned cats and dogs in December alone last year and we expect this winter to be even busier.

Staff at our animal rescue and rehoming centres are desperate to make sure all the pets in our care are kept cosy and comfortable throughout the colder months.

Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre Deputy Assistant Manager Gillian Boyle said, "Due to the high volume of animals coming into our care we get through a huge amount of blankets in a relatively short space of time.

"Unfortunately some animals can find kennel life very stressful, so blankets often get ripped and torn which means we have to replace them frequently.

"We're appealing to the public to hand in new or used blankets that are clean and in good condition.

"There will be hundreds of neglected cats and dogs needing a bit of love this winter and it's our aim to give them all a safe, warm place to stay. We hope people will get behind our campaign and donate a blanket to a pet in need."

Blankets can be handed in to any of our Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres between 10am and 4pm seven days a week.
