Dog with mysterious injuries found in Ayr
The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog with painful injuries was found in Ayr.
A member of the public spotted the female Staffordshire bull terrier on Ayr Beach on Monday (14 November) and handed her in to us.
The dog, who has been named Shelly, was suffering from suspected burns on her right-hand rib cage and left shoulder. Sections of her fur had come off and her skin underneath was very raw.
Shelly was examined by a vet who is unsure how she sustained her injuries and the five-year-old dog is now receiving treatment at our Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Inspector Kerry Kirkpatrick said, "It's unclear how Shelly ended up with these sores but there is a possibility she had been burnt. The vet also said she could have been stuck in a small space and scraped herself trying to get out.
"She's currently being given antibiotics and pain relief and her wounds have improved a great deal already.
"Unfortunately, she isn't micro-chipped so we can't identify her owner.
"Shelly is a lovely, sweet-natured girl and if she has been injured deliberately we need to find the person responsible."
