The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after four hens were rescued in separate incidents across Edinburgh.
We were called to pick up the birds at three different locations between Saturday and Monday (12 - 14 November).
On Saturday, Inspector Jenni Surgeon was called to collect two hens from the back garden of a property on Ferry Road. She then rescued a third hen from nearby Fraser Crescent in Trinity on Sunday.
Inspector Surgeon said, "It's very likely all three birds have come from the same place as they were found so close together, just one day apart.
"These could be stray hens but it's also possible they have been abandoned.![]()
"All three were in thin body condition and we are keen to identify the owner."
On Monday, a fourth hen was discovered in the Leith area of the city.
Animal Rescue Officer Emma Phillips was called to pick up the bird from Dalmeny Street after it was spotted outside a block of flats.
ARO Phillips said, "I collected a black hen which was rather skinny, suggesting it could have been straying for a while.
"It's unclear whether it has come from the same place as the other three birds. The hen would have had to travel quite far to end up in Leith from Ferry Road or Trinity so it's a bit of a mystery."
All four hens are now being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Anyone with information relating to these hens is urged to call the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
