Life ban for dog neglect

Cindy's coat was in a terrible state

A man who allowed his lhaso apso's coat to become so matted her eyes were completely covered has been banned from keeping dogs for life.

Archibald Campbell, 66, then residing at Castlehill View, Kilsyth, was sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court on Friday (28 October) and fined £200.

Campbell admitted causing his seven-year-old female lhaso apso type dog, Cindy, unnecessary suffering by failing to provide veterinary attention or grooming between an unknown date and 17 June 2010.

Inspector Leanne McPake said, "Poor Cindy was in a terrible state and had not been groomed for a prolonged period of time. Her coat was extremely matted and was thick with hard and fresh faeces.Cindy after her treatment and grooming

"Campbell clearly did not understand the care and essential grooming required for this breed.

"We are pleased he has received a life ban as he has demonstrated he is unable to properly care for animals.

"Cindy received the necessary treatment and grooming before being found a loving new home."
