The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information following the deaths of three cats in Stirling from anti-freeze poisoning.
Two cats returned home to Lindsay Drive displaying symptoms on Friday (21 October) while a third cat was visibly unwell when it returned to Fraser Place the following day (Saturday 22 October). The addresses are within 300 metres of each other.
Sadly, all three cats had to be put to sleep on veterinary advice and post-mortem results confirmed they had been poisoned by anti-freeze.
Scottish SPCA Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, "We are appealing for information to ascertain whether these poisonings have been accidental or deliberate.
"There could be an anti-freeze spill somewhere, though we can't rule out the possibility that these cats have been targeted.
"This type of poison causes a cat to suffer a very painful and horrific death as their organs stop working.
"Symptoms include cats staggering and being sick, dehydrated and weak.
"People should check they have not spilled any anti-freeze and that they don't have a leaking engine, while owners should contact a vet immediately if they have any concerns their cats may have been poisoned."
Anyone with information relating to these poisons is urged to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
