Garden centre kitten dies

Rae and Moir

The Scottish SPCA has renewed its appeal for information after one of two kittens found outside a garden centre near Aberdeen sadly died.

Having been discovered at Raemoir Garden Centre in Banchory last Tuesday (18 October), the two-week-old pair were taken in by our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Drumoak, where they were named Rae and Moir.

Assistant Manager Debbie Innes said, "A member of our staff fostered both of the kittens and cared for them around the clock.

"Unfortunately, little Moir became ill very quickly and passed away only twenty minutes later.

"The post-mortem revealed she died of septicaemia due to the E-coli virus, which she may have contracted through dirty birthing conditions or being in filthy surroundings.

"It's really sad Moir was unable to live happily in a new home after her tough start in life.

"Rae is still being fostered by one of our staff and we're doing all we can for her. We're hoping she'll survive, though it's too early to tell.

"We want to find out why Rae and Moir were found where they were. They may have been abandoned there, which would be an offence."

Anyone with information is urged to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
