Mystery kittens found in garden centre
The Scottish SPCA is caring for a pair of two-week-old kittens who were mysteriously discovered outside at a garden centre in Aberdeen.
A member of staff at Raemoir Garden Centre in Banchory was surprised to find the frightened cats under a pallet on Tuesday morning (18 October) and handed them in to our Aberdeenshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Drumoak.
Staff are now hand-rearing the tiny cats, who have been suitably named Rae and Moir.
It is unclear how the kittens arrived in the unusual spot but abandonment cannot be ruled out.
Centre manager Graeme Innes said, "This is a bit of a mystery as it's a very strange place for someone to have dumped them but it is still a possibility.
"They were actually found under a pallet beside the loading bay at the garden centre so someone could have left them there.
"The cats could be feral but the gentleman who found them said there was no sign of mum.
"Apart from being absolutely freezing when they arrived the kittens are in good condition so we don't think they'd been there very long.
"They were very lucky to have been found as they wouldn't have survived much longer out in the cold without any food.
"As they're so young we're feeding them every four hours and a member of staff takes them home every evening so they can be given around the clock care.
"Rae and Moir will stay with us until they're nine weeks and then we'll be looking for a loving new home for them together."
