Fine and ban for dog neglect

One of the dog's injuries

The Scottish SPCA has welcomed the fine and ban imposed on a man who neglected his dogs and was caught in possession of illegal snares.

Liam Blair, Esk Place, Annan, had previously pled guilty to three charges and was sentenced at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday (11 October).

The 24-year-old was banned from keeping dogs for two years, fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £800 in compensation to us.

Blair was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering by failing to provide veterinary treatment to his bull lurcher and terrier.

Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, "These dogs were suffering from facial injuries and despite the obvious pain they were in Blair did not seek veterinary treatment.

"Thankfully both have made a full recovery and will be now be rehomed somewhere they will receive the care and attention they deserve, along with a bull lurcher which was also signed over into our care.

"The fine and compensation orders are substantial and we are pleased a ban has been imposed."
