Stray parrot seeks owner

The stray bird

The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of an African grey parrot found perched on the balcony of a flat in the Capital.

We were called to rescue the exotic bird after it was discovered by a resident at Brackenridge View off Ferniehill Road, Edinburgh on Sunday night (2 October).

The parrot is now being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno.

Assistant Manager Kenny Sharpe said, "This parrot is pretty distinct as it's a Timneh African Grey which is much darker than the Congo variety.

"It doesn't have the bright red tail feathers you'd expect to see, so we're hoping that its owner will recognise the description and come to collect their bird.

"The parrot is in good overall condition and seems to be quite friendly so we're sure someone out there must be missing their pet.

"You'd be surprised how many stray parrots come into our care. They tend to escape when their owners are cleaning out their cages or letting them have a fly around a room.

"All it takes is for a door or window to be open and they're off. Sometimes they get mobbed by crows and arrive injured and exhausted but this one seems to be in good health."

Anyone who has recently lost a parrot in the Lothians is being encouraged to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
