Following a Scottish SPCA investigation a Lanarkshire man has been convicted of possessing pitbull terriers, banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
Derek Alexander Richardson Clark admitted four charges of keeping the banned breeds at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday (4 October). He was fined £450.
Intelligence gathered by our special investigation unit led to a raid at Clark's property in Ashgill in August 2010. Four dogs were seized and taken into our care where they were assessed by a vet and confirmed to be pitbull terriers.
Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, "We are pleased Clark has been convicted of this crime, but very disappointed that he has not been banned from keeping animals.
"It is not only illegal to keep pitbulls but also extremely irresponsible."
