The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two rabbits were found dumped by a roadside near Stranraer.
We were alerted to the abandoned bunnies after a member of the public spotted them sitting at the side of the road opposite the satellite station at West Freugh Camp on Monday (19 September).
The rabbits are around a year old, one is male and white with black markings and the other is an albino female.
Named Timmy and Angel they are now both being cared for at Dunragit Kennels.
Superintendent Sharon Comrie said, "Timmy and Angel are well handled pet rabbits, so we can only assume that someone has grown tired of caring for them.
"Rather than trying to find them good new homes they've simply dumped them outdoors in the hope that someone else will take responsibility for them.
"Domestic rabbits have no wild survival skills and are easy prey for predators and of course being dumped by the roadside means they also risk being run over and killed.
"It's not only irresponsible, it's also an offence to abandon an animal so we are keen to speak to anyone who knows anything about this.
"Timmy and Angel were very hungry when they arrived but they've had a good feed now. We hope someone will come forward and offer them a loving and permanent home."
Anyone with information relating to the rabbits, or wishing to rehome Timmy and Angel, should contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
