Cat found with slash wound

Pushka recovering

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat returned to his Inverness home with a deep slash wound to his rear-end.

Three year old Pushka arrived at his Anderson Street home in severe pain on Wednesday morning (31 August). His distraught owner rushed him to Crown Vets where he underwent surgery to repair the deep laceration running from his anus to his penis.

Concerned vets contacted us to investigate the incident.

Senior Inspector Gill MacGregor said, "The vet who operated on Pushka said this was a very suspicious injury, likely to have been caused by a sharp implement due to the clean, deep and penetrating nature of the wound.

"Luckily the cut missed the bladder and the rectum so Pushka is now back home with his owners and recovering well, although the outcome could have been much worse.

"We're keen to speak to anyone who might know how Pushka came to receive this terrible injury while he was outdoors between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning."

We have received many reports of cat cruelty across Scotland in recent months including kittens being dumped in bin bags and left to die and cats being caught in illegal snares.

Causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can face stiff penalties including up to six months in prison, a £20,000 fine or both.

Anyone with information is asked to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
