Kitten thrown from van

Ellie was thrown from a van

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a tiny kitten was cruelly thrown from a van.

A member of the public spotted the black and white four month old female kitten being tossed out of the window of a white van leaving a work yard in Thornhill, near Stirling, on the afternoon of Monday 15 August.

The passer-by picked up the kitten and rushed her to a local vet clinic where vets contacted us for help.

Local Inspector Louise Seddon, who is investigating the incident, said, "This was an incredibly cruel and callous act which could easily have resulted in the kitten's serious injury or death.

"She was bleeding from her mouth, nose and ears so it's likely she's sustained an impact injury to her head.

"Amazingly, she has made a good recovery and isn't showing any signs of lasting damage yet, but we're very keen to trace the driver of the vehicle and to speak to anyone who recognises the kitten.

"We'd also like to get in touch with the man who handed her in to the vets surgery as he may be able to provide us with more detailed information.

"We don't know the exact location of the incident, but we do know that there were males in the van and as Thornhill is a small village we're hopeful locals might be able to identify these persons."

The kitten has since been given a loving home and is now named Ellie.

Causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can face stiff penalties including a prison sentence and a substantial fine up to a maximum of £20,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
