Dogs abandoned in Muir of Ord

Abandoned terriers Muir of Ord

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after two dogs were allegedly abandoned together in Muir of Ord.

The pair of dogs, a Tibetan terrier and a terrier cross, were discovered by a member of the public at the Post Office, Great North Road on Tuesday 19 July and are now being cared for at our Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre where they have been named Tamara and Trixie.

Scottish SPCA Chief Inspector Iain Allan said, "The dogs were found together and they get on well so they have obviously lived together.

"The golden Tibetan terrier, Tamara, has a microchip but it is still registered to the breeder in England and unfortunately we have been unable to trace who owns them.

"Some of Tamara's coat was matted with bits cut out where it looked like someone had attempted to remove the matted fur. Her legs were also very matted so we've had to clip all her hair off.

"They are both older dogs, approximately eight to ten years old and other than Tamara's coat condition, they are in good health and are very friendly.

"It is very irresponsible and illegal to abandon animals so we are keen to identify who owned these dogs as they couldn't have been sure someone would help them."

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information about the dogs should contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
