Appeal after Peebles abandonment

Rottweiler

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after a dog was found abandoned in a Peebles stairwell.

Having been contacted by a concerned member of the public, the charity discovered a male rottweiler tied up to a railing at flats on Old Town.

Scottish SPCA Inspector Jenny Scott said, "The dog was first noticed tied up at 8am on Tuesday morning (12 July) and we were called because he was still there at 4.30pm.

"We've spoken to most of the people living in the block and no one seems to know who his owner was so it seems someone has either visited the flats or come into the stairwell and purposefully abandoned him.

"He had no microchip or collar so we are appealing for help to trace his owner as abandoning an animal is an offence.

"While he is in good condition, he was left without food or water and the person who tied him up couldn't have been sure that whoever found him would help him.

"He has a lovely nature and is around two years old. We will soon be looking for a new home for him which will need to have experience of his breed."

Abandoning an animal is illegal and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.

Anyone with information should contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
