The Scottish SPCA is looking for new owners to take on two tubby dogs, one of which is almost twice its ideal weight.
Nico and Aldo have both been taken in by the charity’s Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre and are on a weight management programme.
Centre Assistant Manager Anna O’Donnell said, “Nico and Aldo are male collie crosses who came into our care separately but with the same condition.
“Although they were much loved pets, they are grossly overweight.
“Nico, who is five years old, weighs a staggering 44.3kgs. Both dogs should be around 25kgs, so Nico really is huge and one of the most overweight dogs we’ve had in our care.
“Aldo, who is around seven years old, arrived as a stray and weighs less at 36.8kgs but is still far heavier than he should be.
“Clearly they’ve both been overfed and under-exercised so we’ve put them on a weight management diet and have started some gentle exercise to help them start shedding some pounds.
“We're hopefull that as they continue to lose weight and undergo further veterinary checks we do not find any underlying health problems caused by their weight.
"For now, we are looking for new homes for both of them."
Anyone interested in rehoming Nico or Aldo can contact the Scottish SPCA on 03000 999 999 and ask for our Glasgow Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
