Dog abandoned in Edinburgh

Ruby

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was found abandoned at an Edinburgh bus stop.

The female cross breed was tied to railings on Gray's Loan in the south of the city and was spotted by a member of the public who took her to a local vet.

Senior Inspector John Toule, who collected the dog from the vet, said, "A local resident thinks she had been left there for about two to three hours.

"Other than being a bit overweight, she is in good condition and is very friendly.

"Whoever abandoned her couldn't have been sure that someone would have found her as it's not a busy road.

"Given her condition, it is possible that she may have been stolen or has run away and someone has tied her up.

"We can't trace her owner as she doesn't have a microchip or identity tag.

"She is an adult dog about eight years old and is possibly a boxer or mastiff cross."

The dog is now being cared for at our animal rescue and rehoming centre in Balerno where staff have named her Ruby.

Anyone who recognises Ruby should contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
