The Scottish SPCA is appealing to animal lovers in Caithness to spare a thought for some of their long term residents needing new homes.
Badger, a ten year old cross breed dog, came into the care of our Caithness and Sutherland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre nine months ago after his previous owner died.
Centre Assistant Manager Christine Mackay said, "When Badger arrived he had a bad ear infection. However, this has cleared up and he is now in good health.
"Despite his age he is still very active and loves going for walks.
"He would need to be the only pet in his new home as he doesn't get on with other dogs and due to his breed instincts he couldn't be rehomed with small animals.
"Badger is a lovely older boy who would like to go to a new home."
Last year the centre rehomed over 150 animals and is currently caring for a variety of animals including dogs, cats, rabbits and degus who are all looking for new owners.
Christine continued, "We also have Belle, a five year old cat who has been with us for a year now.
"She came into our care after her previous owner abandoned her.
"We can't figure out why no-one has rehomed her yet as she is a lovely, friendly cat who likes to be made a fuss of.
"We'd love to find Badger and Belle new homes as they both deserve a second chance in life."
The Centre at Balmore is open to the public 10am until 4pm every day.
A selection of the animals available for rehoming at the centre is available to view at scottishspca.org/rehoming.
