Emaciated dog abandoned

Rabbie

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after an emaciated dog was abandoned on the streets of Glasgow.

The neutered male collie cross was found by a member of the public on Penneld Road in the Pennilee area of the city on Monday (24 January).

Senior Inspector Billy Linton said, "The dog is in a poor condition as he is emaciated and his coat is badly matted.

"He only weighs 11kg which is less than half his ideal weight.

"It's difficult to say how old he is given his bad condition but we think he is between eight and ten.

"He has no microchip or identity tag so we don't know who his owner is.

"Whoever owns this dog obviously hasn't given him the care he needs as they have allowed him to deteriorate to such a poor state.

"It's very sad that he's had to suffer like this as he's a lovely, obedient dog with a great nature.

"We would urge anyone who has any information to contact us."

The dog is now being cared for our animal rescue and rehoming centre in Glasgow where staff have named him Rabbie.

Anyone who has information regarding Rabbie should contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.

Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
