The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two Persian cats were found abandoned in Dumbarton.
The male and female cats were rescued by us on Sunday (16 January) following a number of calls from members of the public who had spotted them on a walkway by the old water works on Castlegreen Street.
Senior Inspector Billy Linton said, "The cats are about four or five years old but are not in good condition as their coats are badly matted, especially the male's.
"They are very distinctive and the female only has a stump for a tail. She also has an eye infection and dental problems.
"Despite their condition, both cats are very good natured and friendly.
"Neither cat had an identity tag or was microchipped so we don't know who owns them.
"Their condition should never have reached such a poor state as they need regular grooming and the female should have received vet treatment for her eye and teeth problems."
The cats are now being cared for at our Dunbartonshire and West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre where staff have named them Belle and Sebastian.
Anyone with information about the cats should contact our animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
Abandoning an animal is an offence and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
