New television campaign launched

The Scottish SPCA has launched a new television campaign to raise awareness of its work in Scotland and to increase support.

Scottish SPCA Chief Superintendent Mike Flynn said, "Pressure on the services we offer has increased dramatically over the last few years.

"Our figures for 2009 demonstrate just how difficult a job we have rescuing and rehoming animals all over Scotland, with the number of animals in our care, calls to our Animal Helpline and cases going to court all increasing signficantly.

"We are very proud of the dedication and passion of our rescue centre staff, inspectors and amulance drivers, who provide the public with a vital service.

"However, the reality is we are a charity and one that receives no government or lottery funding.

"We do therefore need public support to continue our vital work. Without supporters, there would be no Scottish SPCA - and there would be no one to help the thousands of animals we rescue and rehome every year.

"It doesn't cost much to join the Scottish SPCA and become a supporter. You can join for as little as £1 a week. That may not sound a great deal, but it really does make a huge difference to the thousands of animals in Scotland in desperate need of our help."
