Wounded cat seeks owner

Injured cat

The Scottish SPCA is trying to reunite an injured cat with his owner after he was found badly wounded at Old Deer near Mintlaw, Aberdeenshire on Tuesday 23 February.

The male adult grey cat was discovered by a member of the public struggling to walk as he had caught his front right leg through his collar causing a deep wound under the leg.

The finder removed the collar from the cat and made him comfortable before contacting us for help.

Inspector Scott Elphinstone said, "The cat had a very nasty injury under his leg, caused by the collar rubbing against the skin.

Wounded cat webThe wound was a few days old so it's likely that he has strayed, got himself into difficulty and been unable to make his way home.

"We've had him treated by a vet and he's now on antibiotics to help clear up any infection. He'll be cared for at Mrs Murray's Cat and Dog home while we wait for his owner to come forward.

"He is a nice wee cat, in good condition and his collar was red with studs and a bell. We're sure his owner is missing him.

"We see this type of injury quite frequently in cats and we'd urge cat owners to choose elastic, flexible collars rather than rigid, leather or plastic collars to avoid this sort of thing happening to their cat."

Anyone who recognises the cat should contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
