Appeal after dog found in Glenrothes

Glenrothes dog

The Scottish SPCA has appealed for information after a dog which has recently given birth was found in Glenrothes.

Discovered in Marmion Drive yesterday afternoon (Thursday 18 February), the black and tan crossbreed is thought to be around 18 months old and had no name tag or microchip.

Scottish SPCA Senior Inspector Steven Gray said, "The dog was taken to Langdykes Kennels in Kennoway by the local dog warden having followed a lady home.

"She's a very friendly girl, which leads us to believe that she probably has an owner somewhere.

"We know she has recently given birth and has been feeding pups, which raises concerns about their health.

"The chances are that someone owns this dog and her puppies. What may have happened is she has been pestered by her pups so much that she has had enough and has bolted from her home. It is worrying, though, that no one seems to be looking for her, while her pups are likely to be extremely stressed and needing their mother's milk.

"Another possibility is she is a stray and has been abandoned at some point, in which case her pups may have been born outside and are without their mother. Given the recent overnight temperatures, it's unlikely the pups would have survived."

Anyone with information should contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
