The Scottish SPCA is searching for the owner of a beautiful cat that was found on the street in a pet carrier in Saltcoats.
We received a call from a local pet shop owner who said that a member of the public had brought the cat into the store in the black and white plastic pet carrier reporting that they had found the cat outside an Iceland supermarket on Tuesday (9 February).
The one year old male cat is now being cared for at our Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Mainholm, Ayr. Staff have named the handsome feline Casanova.
Scottish SPCA Ambulance Driver Jean MacKay said, "We are unsure of the exact circumstances in which he was found so we are urging anyone who recognises the cat to contact us with information.
"It could be that his owner entered the store and left the cat outside while they were shopping, or it could be that he has been abandoned.
"Casanova is a very beautiful cat with striking markings. He's also in good body condition with a lovely temperament so he's attracted a lot of interest in the short time he's been in our care. If we don't trace his owner we already have someone willing to offer him a loving, permanent home."
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare Act (Scotland) 2006.
Anyone with information relating to the cat should contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
