The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a dog was dumped in a pub toilet in Edinburgh.
Staff at the Standing Order on George Street discovered the young male Border collie tied up in the male toilets of the pub on Monday (9 November) at around 10am.
We were called to rescue the dog, which has been named Dingo and is now being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at Balerno, Edinburgh.
Scottish SPCA Inspector Heather Lawson said, "When staff entered the toilets they found Dingo tied up by a leather lead and wearing a yellow collar.
"He was terrified and baring his teeth, although he made no attempt to lunge or bite. Dingo has clearly had little human contact because he is very nervous around people, either that or his past experiences with humans have not been good.
"He was also very lean and in need of a good meal, which the staff at the Standing Order kindly provided in the form of a plate full of black pudding."
Inspector Lawson continued, "A man, aged around 25 to 30 and wearing a white jacket and a white beanie hat, was seen walking into the Rose Street entrance to the pub and upstairs towards the toilets with the dog.
"We are very keen to speak to anyone who recognises either the description of the man or the dog."
Dingo is settling in at the charity's Edinburgh centre, where he will be cared for until he is ready to be rehomed.
Abandoning an animal is an offence that carries stiff penalties up to a maximum of six months in prison, a £5,000 fine or both. Anyone found guilty of doing so can also be expected to be banned from owning animals for a fixed period or life.
