The Scottish SPCA is calling on animal lovers in the Highlands and Islands to enter the Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running to raise vital funds.

We still have spaces available for events in the festival, which takes place on 29 September, including a marathon, 10k, 5k and children's race.

Elaine Floyd, manager of our Highlands and Islands Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Inverness, said, "The Loch Ness Marathon Festival of Running is a fantastic way for locals to help animals in the area.

"If a full marathon sounds too scary, there are shorter runs to choose from, including a 10k and 5k.

"There's also a 'Wee Nessie Race' for children under five years old, so it's a great opportunity for kind-hearted youngsters to make a difference in their community.

"We don't receive any government or lottery funding which means we rely on the public to be able to continue our work rescuing and rehoming animals in desperate need of our help.

"Anyone who sets themselves the challenge of taking part in one of these events really will be helping save lives."
