Deaf kitten found trapped at dam
The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of a deaf kitten found trapped at the floodgates of Tongland Dam.
A staff member at the dam in Kirkcudbright heard the distressed feline's cries on Friday (19 October). As the cat had no way of getting out again, another employee accessed him via a ladder and brought him to safety before contacting us for help.
Now named Thor, the four to five month old white male kitten is recovering at Dunragit Kennels in Stranraer.
Manager Peter Baker said, "Thor is very lucky indeed to have been spotted as if he had fallen into the water it's very unlikely he would have survived.
"When he arrived in our care it became evident he is deaf as he didn't react at all when our smoke alarm was tested. Unfortunately, deafness is relatively common in cats with white fur.
"Thor was really hungry when he we was found so he may have been straying for a while.
"He is an extremely friendly young chap so we think he has been a well-loved pet until recently.
"However, the dam is in quite a remote spot so we can't rule out the possibility he has been abandoned.
"If no-one comes forward to claim Thor we'll be looking to find him a loving new home."
