The Scottish SPCA is seeking the owner of a cat and four newborn kittens found sheltering under a hedge during stormy weather.
We were contacted by a resident of Balfour Street in Kirkcaldy who discovered the animals in her garden on Tuesday (25 September).
They are now recovering at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where mum has been affectionately nicknamed Gale.
Animal Rescue Officer Kieran Smart said, "These kittens are very young, no more than a few days old.
"It's likely that Gale has escaped from home just before giving birth as she is in good overall condition.
"With the recent high winds and cold temperatures we've experienced, these kittens wouldn't have survived for long outside so we're very glad they were found.
"Other than being frightened and nervous, both mum and her kittens are doing well.
"Gale isn't wearing a collar but she's quite a distinctive tri-coloured cat so we're hoping someone will recognise her.
"There's every chance her owner is distraught that she has gone missing and we'd be delighted to be able to return Gale and her four new additions home soon."
Anyone who recognises Gale is being asked to call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
