Cat found at petrol station

Jim

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat was found in a box at a petrol station in Fife.

We were contacted to rescue the young black and white feline on Wednesday evening (19 September) after a member of the public took him home after spotting him inside a crisp box at a Shell garage on Halbeath road, Dunfermline.

Now named Jim, the cat is being cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno.

Senior Inspector John Chisholm said, "We have reviewed the CCTV footage from the garage but unfortunately weren't able to see anyone leaving Jim.

"The garage is on a very busy main road and Jim could easily have been run over and injured so we're glad he is now safe.

"He's a really friendly guy in good condition so he obviously has been someone's pet until recently.

"We're keeping an open mind at this stage as he may simply have gone missing from home and crawled into the box rather than being abandoned.

"Either way, we are keen to trace his owner and would ask anyone who recognises Jim to get in touch."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
