The Scottish SPCA believes the majority of airgun users are law-abiding and use them according to the law and best practice.
However, those who misuse airguns can cause horrific injuries to animals, often leading to their deaths.
Our Airgun Agony survey revealed that 40 percent of vets and Scottish SPCA Inspectors had knowledge of an animal being injured or killed by an airgun in the past year. Cats were the most common target, followed by wildlife.
The majority of respondents concluded that airgun attacks had become more serious and less than five percent felt current controls on airgun use are adequate.
We continue to deal with sickening airgun attacks on animals and it is our goal to achieve a total ban on airguns in Scotland. You can help by writing to your MSP >
In April 2009, we backed a Scottish Government led awareness raising campaign. Read more about the campaign here >
