The Scottish SPCA is the only animal welfare charity in Scotland that rescues and rehomes all animals, from domestic and farm animals to wildlife and exotic animals.
We believe that animals have the right to be free from hunger, thirst, discomfort, pain, injury, disease, fear and distress. Animals should also have the freedom to express normal behaviour.
At all times, we advocate responsible pet ownership and animal husbandry. Before deciding to care for an animal, we believe potential owners should ensure they have the time, energy and resources to do so.
Animals must receive veterinary treatment whenever required and we recommend taking out insurance wherever possible.
Comprehensive literature and websites exist offering advice to owners.
The Scottish Government is also in the process of issuing animal welfare codes. These will be posted here as soon as they are made available.
