Volunteer

Volunteers with dogVolunteers play a key role with the Scottish SPCA, working with animals in our animal rescue and rehoming centres, supporting our Education Officers and fundraising in their local communities.

Animals

Our animal rescue and rehoming centre staff look after dogs, cats and small animals all over Scotland. Horses, farm animals and exotics are cared for at our Edinburgh and Lothian Centre, while our Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fife rehabilitates and returns an amazing array of birds, seals, swans, hedgehogs and more to the wild.

The minium age to volunteer in our centres is 16. Please note that opportunities to volunteer to work with animals are limited due to long waiting lists.

Education

We have education facilities at our Glasgow, Dunbartonshire and Lanarkshire centres along with our Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Education volunteers assist our Education Officers with school visits and events. Training is provided and all education volunteers are required to have an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check.

Fundraising

As a charity, we rely on public donations. Volunteer fundraisers can help us raise the funds we need to continue to care for animals in need. You can help collect during Scottish Animal Week in September or on any of our collection days.

We also need volunteers at our shows and events.  We don't need a huge amount of commitment - just a couple of hours each year will do!
